Nike Logo and Slogan
The Nike
Logo was invented by Caroline Davidson in 1971. She met Phil Knight at Portland
University; he asked her if she could design the logo for both sides of the shoe.
She made the design to represent the Greek Goddess. Mr. Knight said, “’Well I don’t love it, but
maybe it will grow on me’” (Howard). He
ended up using the design and he paid her 35 dollars for her design. The logo
now is worth 643 thousand dollars. Few years later Caroline got a gold ring in
the shape of the swoosh with a small diamond to say thank you for her design.
Surprisingly there slogan was invented in a very unusual way. It was invented by a criminal who demanded death penalty after killing 2 people. Dan Wieden asked if the killer Gary Gilmos had any last words and he said “’Let’s do it’” (Howard). A few years later Dan Wieden thought he should change it to something else. He changed it to “Just Do It”.
