Nike was founded in 1964
as a Blue Ribbon Sports. Blue Ribbon was the first store to ever sell Nike
shoes. It was founded by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, they were from the
University of Organ as a Track and Field coach. Jeff Johnson was the first
employ at Nike and wanted to audacity. Jeff Johnson said “’Let’s call it Dimension 6’” (O’Reilly). That
was the original name of Nike. It stayed the same name until 1970. Johnson
tried to coax himself to like it but later they decided they did not like that
name anymore.
Later in 1970 they did not like the name anymore. They
spent many days trying to come up with a new name. Then one night Johnson had a
dream, he dreamed of a Greek Goddess. The
Author states ‘’They changed the name to Nike after the Greek Goddess of
victory’’ (O’Reilly). Johnson liked the name because it was named after a Goddess.
They Johnson came up with both names. Later Bowerman decided he liked Nike
better because it was named after a Goddess.
After they came up with the name Nike, they decided to launch it in
1971.
